TOPCon optical

Bifacial TOPCon cell

Defines an industrial-style bifacial n-type TOPCon cell with poly-Si on lumped skins, calibrated against measured front and rear reflection/transmission.

This example shows how to define a bifacial solar cell typical of industrial n-type TOPCon cells — a workhorse architecture now in volume production at average cell efficiencies above 23% and module powers above 345 W — modeling the poly-silicon layers on lumped skins to account for their parasitic absorption and lateral conductance. Bifacial optics use the extended Basore model.

Parameters are calibrated by fitting measured reflection and transmission data for both front and rear illumination, so the model captures both optical and electrical loss mechanisms. A download (bifacial_TOPCon.zip) is provided.

What this example covers:

  • A bifacial n-type TOPCon cell with poly-Si modeled on lumped skins (parasitic absorption + lateral conductance)
  • Bifacial optics via the extended Basore model
  • Calibration against measured front- and rear-illumination reflection/transmission
